Samsung Galaxy X Foldable Display Will Take Over iPhone X
Samsung Galaxy X, the rumoured foldable phone from the tech giant is reported to cost as high as 2,000,000 South Korean Won (approx. Rs.125000, $1,850, £1,375). If the reports turn out to be on point, it will be the costliest Samsung phone till date, even more than the iPhone X.
According to a report by The Korea Times, an analyst from Shinhan Financial has told the daily that Samsung Galaxy X will be priced at 2,000,000 South Korean Won.
Another analyst, Kim Jang-yeol, head of research at Golden Bridge Investment says that the Galaxy X will come with a 7.3-inch OLED panel, which will reduce to 4.5-inches when folded.
Park Hyung-woo, analyst at Shinhan Financial further mentions that he expects the Galaxy to enter production around November, with an aim to launch it early 2019.
Analysts believe that Samsung might showcase the prototype to its carrier partners at CES 2019. If analyst predictions are believed, it’s possible that Samsung might launch the handset at the MWC 2019 in February.
Looking at the price suggested by the Analysts, it’s quite evident that Samsung isn’t primarily aiming to sell huge numbers here. What we can derive from this is that it wants to safeguard the “world’s first” title in this category.
There have been numerous reports around the production of the foldable Samsung phone. One of the report suggested that Samsung is going to produce 300,000-500,000 units of the phone initially to gauge market response before ramping up the production for the next lot.
It’s quite evident that Samsung is working on a foldable phone, as the company itself has hinted us about it multiple times. Samsung has also filed several patents in regards to the phone with one of them revealing the ability to fold without damaging any “internal components”.
The claims made by analysts are believable, but we’d still suggest you to take things as a pinch of salt until Samsung makes a concrete revelation about the device.
As for the specifications while nothing is concrete out in the market one should expect nothing but the very best on the Android side of the fence. This means one could be looking at the latest and greatest Qualcomm Snapdragon or Samsung Exynos processor and the best in class optics and perhaps even Android P, but this is speculative.
